Frequently Asked Questions
Why Indoor Dog Daycare is Better for Small Dogs?
Indoor doggie daycare offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond just staying out of the weather. At Stay N Play, our climate-controlled indoor space is thoughtfully designed for small dogs to thrive — safely and comfortably.
Consistent Comfort
Rain, snow, heatwaves? No problem. Our temperature-controlled environment keeps your dog cozy and safe year-round, no matter what the forecast says. No sun burns on the bull dogs. No tangles and knots on the Havanese and Poodles. No weeds. No Ticks.
Safe & Supervised Play
Indoor spaces offer better control of the environment. From flooring to fencing, every detail is designed to prevent injury and promote safe, enriching play for small dogs.
Clean & Controlled Environment
Less exposure to environmental allergens, parasites, or wildlife means your pup stays healthier. Plus, our facility is sanitized daily with pet-safe products. The entire environment is sanitized, and regularly sterilized with a commercial steamer.
Structured Enrichment
Indoors allows us to create consistent routines and focused enrichment programs like Minds and Manners training, confidence games, and interactive brain challenges. We have over 50 training games, 100 exercises, and 226 tricks that will keep your pup happy and engaged.
Small Groups Reduce Overstimulation
Our calm, controlled setting helps sensitive dogs avoid the stress of unpredictable outdoor environments, loud noises, or excessive excitement. There are no ‘unexpected’ stimulations in an indoor environment.
Everything is controlled. Everything is homelike. For dogs, familiar is safe. Dogs do not go through the stress when they start daycare. This means that your dog will not get the typical ‘stressors’ associated with going to doggie daycare.
Smaller groups, and less dogs per supervisor, means that dogs can be removed, or redirected when overstimulation occurs. Indoors, stopping bullying is easy as dividing the play area up, throwing in some more toys, or moving a dog to another play area.
Year-Round Socialization
Your dog can safely play, learn, and socialize every season — regardless of weather conditions.
Why The Elgin Centre?
Mental & Social Benefits of a Mall-Based Daycare
A doggie daycare in a mall offers more than just convenience — it provides meaningful mental and social stimulation in a unique, controlled environment.
Mental Enrichment
The mall setting brings a variety of new sights, sounds, and scents that help stimulate your dog’s brain in a safe, supervised way. From ambient noise to gentle foot traffic, these controlled exposures help build resilience and adaptability.
Confidence Building
Being near a busy, but structured environment helps dogs become more comfortable with everyday stimuli — like shopping carts, doors opening, background chatter, or different flooring textures — all while remaining safely inside our secure facility.
Positive Socialization
Your pup engages with other dogs in a calm, indoor space designed for small-group play, learning healthy boundaries, and improving communication skills — without the unpredictability of a public park.
Reduced Reactivity
For dogs working through behavioral challenges, the mall setting provides the perfect blend of real-world exposure and professional support. With certified trainers on-site, we gently guide dogs through desensitization and behavior adjustment in a way that’s tailored to their needs.
A Sense of Routine and Belonging
Regular visits to a familiar, enriching environment — full of friends and friendly faces — provide emotional stability and joy, helping your dog feel safe, confident, and socially fulfilled.
Where Will My Dog's Potty
Indoor sanitation is 100% higher than outdoor. We have an indoor sanitary room that will make your dog ‘think’ it is outdoor. There is sand, and grass in our potty room.
Whether your dog uses pee pads, or goes outside, we have you covered.
After each dog potties, we treat the whole area with the same cleaner used by vets so nothing is passed from one dog to the next.
Why Can't My Big Dogs Come?
We love big Dogs!
I have trained and shown German Shepherds in sports for over 10 years. This is my Merida, a champion, working on her nosework elite title, trick dog elite, and musical freestyle.
But our facility just can’t handle big dogs. Our kennels are 3’x3′ and have no roofs. Merida would need 4 – 6 dog beds clumped together to have a nap.
Even our grooming room doesn’t have a full size kennel – that is because 100% of our focus has gone into making a stress free, comfortable, safe feeling, enviornment for little dogs.
How Do You Prevent Bullying?
Bullying is a major problem in dog daycares. Some breeds, like bull dogs, or older dogs, do not want to be bothered. Other breeds, like Havanese and goldens think everyone loves them.
We solve this by creating a play center where dogs can see each other, greet each other, but only 2 or 3 ‘friends’ will play with eah other.
Our ‘low arousal’ and 1:1 people dog interaction, reduces problems.
I want my dog to make friends.
This can happen, but we need to work at your dog’s pace, and realize, your dog may not want friends.
That doesn’t mean he will be lonely, or isolated at our center. It just means that we will respect your dog’s wishes.
The real recluses may spend time under my desk helping me monitor the entire facility, or they may be carried around by one of our workers. But they will receive socialization, and attention, without overwhelming them.
What if My Dog is Hurt
We have set several protocols in place to ensure dogs are well cared for, and safe.
But, dogs have been hurt in dog daycare, and in grooming salons. Through no fault of the handler, or groomer. But, that doesn’t help you.
Our protocol:
1 – you are called and informed of the issue.
2 – if it is not an emergency, you will have the option of taking the dog to the vet. If not, we will take the dog to the vet.
3 – if it is an emergency then we will take the dog to the vet.
Who pays the bill?
This is a service with a high level of risk. We spend a major portion of our day reducing risk. If we did somethinng wrong, we will fix it. If not, then it is considered part of animal welfare. (That is why we are big proponents of Pet Health Insurance)
- if you do not want your dog hurt, then check ‘no group play’. it is so easy for dogs to ‘tear out hair’, bite paws, or mark faces.
- We will try to get your dog into your vet asap. If not, we will try to find a local vet. We are trained in first aid, to help further.
- We will keep you posted of the progress. We have ‘final say’ over vet decisions and treatments until you show up, or call your vet and take over responsibility.
Do I need to tell you if my dog has bit someone, or might bite?
YES!
Not doing so puts everyone in danger and can lead to a lawsuite. We have a Zero tolerance on this issue. You will loose priviledges at the daycare, boardding, and grooming facility.
