ALL DOGS GET SNACKS!
It Has More to Do With Emotional Wellness than giving you an ‘add on’ to your dog’s experience.
Snacks at doggie daycare might sound like a small thing—but they’re actually a big deal for your dog’s emotional and behavioral health.
In a thoughtfully structured, enrichment-based daycare (like ours!), we don’t just hand out treats for fun—we offer intentional, calming snack breaks as part of supporting each dog’s emotional quotient (EQ).
Wait… Dogs Have an EQ?
Absolutely. Just like people, dogs experience:
Emotional highs and lows
Frustration, excitement, anxiety, or overstimulation
The need for predictability, comfort, and connection
We feel that it is emotionally damaging to your dog to see, or smell, another dog receiving a treat, while they do not. They do not understand ‘upselling’. All they know is that they were left out.
Our goal is to help dogs regulate those emotions—and believe it or not, a well-timed snack helps do just that.
The Power of a Snack + Rest Combo
Snack time isn’t just about food—it’s a transitional moment:
It signals calm and safety
It builds trust and positive associations
It helps the brain shift from “go-go-go” to “rest and digest”
This snack break, often paired with quiet crate or nap time, supports dogs in learning to self-regulate—a core emotional skill that helps them handle busy environments without feeling overwhelmed.
What Kinds of Snacks?
We choose simple, dog-safe snacks that:
Are easy to digest
Are high-value without being high-energy
Can be offered in slow-release ways (like licking mats or snuffle toys) to encourage calm focus
We believe in healthy snacks. Rice Rolls full of veggies and fruit, or frozen treats, mounds of Yogurt over a bed of seaweed, maybe just a healthy muffin with dog nutrition in mind. (We will take 100% care to follow your guidelines on your dog’s diet.)
Bonus: If a dog is working through social anxiety or stress, snacks can help create positive associations with new routines and surroundings.
EQ Over Obedience
This is part of the shift from “old-school obedience” to modern emotional support in dog care.
Rather than just correcting behavior, we build dogs up with:
Encouragement
Predictable routines
Tools for emotional balance (like, yes, snack breaks!)
Because a dog who feels safe and supported makes better choices—and feels better doing it.
Small Moments, Big Impact
A snack at the right time can:
✔️ Soothe nerves
✔️ Encourage rest
✔️ Reinforce trust
✔️ Support self-regulation
At our enrichment-based daycare, snack breaks aren’t a luxury. They’re part of our strategy to help every dog feel secure, grounded, and seen.

Note: Hand Made Treats are usually made 24 hours in advance, for the number of dogs in the room. Late bookings may not get the pumpkin ‘spice’ (no nutmeg) muffins, but we do keep a little ingredients onhand to whip up a similar treat for last minute visitors.
